Fix Your Eyes on the Good: Becoming a Light in a Dark World
There’s a heaviness that doesn’t announce itself—it lingers in the quiet moments, after a harsh word, a hard day, or when life simply feels like too much. It’s easy to get lost in that space, where struggles blur the good and negativity feels louder than hope.
I’ve felt that weight. I’ve stood in those moments where the struggle feels endless, and the burden presses in from all sides. But here’s what I’m learning—you don’t have to carry it alone.
There’s a light stronger than any darkness. When we fix our eyes on Jesus, the weight begins to lift. His strength becomes ours. His peace fills every broken space, not just chasing away the darkness but transforming it into something new—hope and our own light.
This isn’t about pretending the storm isn’t real—it’s about trusting the One who calms it. And when His light leads, even the heaviest moments begin to lose their grip.
Bible Verses on Fixing Our Focus

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2. Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3. Luke 11:33-36 - 33. “No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden or under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. 24. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. 35. See to it, then, that the light with you is not darkness. 36. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.”
· Matthew 6:22 – "“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light,

Choosing to Focus on the Good, The Light of God
We aren’t called to ignore problems, but to trust God in them
I’ve wrestled with this tension: How do you focus on the good when life has handed you pain, disappointment, or heartache? Over the last 12–14 years, I’ve faced struggles that left deep marks—on my self-worth, my character, and my faith.
Luke 11:33-36 and Hebrews 12:1-3 have been both a challenge and a comfort during this journey. There were seasons where my light felt buried—hidden beneath guilt, pressure, and relentless self-judgment. That darkness wasn’t constant, but it weighed on my heart, leaving stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem in its wake.
What I’m learning is that not every battle is mine to fight. Some burdens are beyond my control. The real choice is: Will I cling to what drains me, or surrender it into God’s hands?
Fixing our focus on Jesus doesn’t mean we ignore our pain—it means we are ready to ask for help and let him strengthen us. His light cuts through the darkness, filling every corner of our hearts with clarity, love, and hope. And when His presence becomes our foundation, that light shines through us, becoming a beacon for others who are lost in their own storms.
With Jesus guiding the way, life’s storms don’t disappear—but they lose their power to consume us. The darkness grows dim, and His light fills the spaces that once felt broken.
Fixing our eyes on Jesus strengthens our faith.
Everyone faces struggles—some are overwhelming, and others creep in quietly, wearing us down over time.
When we fix our eyes on negativity, it clouds our hearts and silences God’s truth. I’ve seen this in my own life. Self-criticism became a loud, constant voice—drowning out peace and clarity, leaving my mind foggy and my heart heavy.
But when I turned my focus toward Jesus, the fog began to lift. His truth broke through the noise. My heart quieted, and I could finally see what mattered: His love, His strength, and His unwavering grace.
Jesus endured suffering beyond anything we can imagine—yet, He carried it with compassion, love, and perfect faith. That example strengthens us. Fixing our eyes on Him doesn’t just inspire us—it fills us with His resilience, His protection, and His boundless grace.

Reflecting What God Has Done Today
Life’s biggest challenges can often show up quietly—in the daily struggles, in moments that feel insignificant but slowly wear us down. But the same is true for God’s blessings. They often arrive in quiet moments, too—gentle reminders of His presence and grace.
So, I invite you to pause and reflect: What’s one thing God has done for you today?
It doesn’t need to be big. Maybe:
· You found your keys just when you needed them.
· The kids were ready for school on time.
· A relationship revealed its truth, giving you clarity and peace.
· You lost a job, but God opened a new door you hadn’t expected.
And if you’re in the middle of a storm right now and can’t see those blessings yet—that’s okay. His light is still shining, even if it feels distant. What small moment of grace has God given you today?
